Tier 1 (General) is for highly skilled workers. Tier 1 (General) is closed to applicants outside the UK, and to migrants who are already here in most other immigration categories. Therefore, our service to most applicants is for renewal of their Tier 1 (General) Migrants Visa
Tier 1 (General) replaced the Highly Skilled Programme (HSMP) on 29 June 2008. If you currently have permission to stay in the UK as a Highly Skilled Migrant (HSMP) or any of the other categories listed below, and you want to extend your stay, you must apply under one of the other Tier 1 categories.
If you have been in the UK for 5 years or more under one of these closed categories, you may be able to apply to settle permanently in the UK.
Highly Skilled Migrant Programme
Fresh Talent: Working in Scotland
International Graduates Scheme
Writers, composers and artists
The Tier 1 (General) category allows you, if you are highly skilled, to look for work or self-employment opportunities in the UK. As a Tier 1 (General) migrant, you can seek employment in the UK without a sponsor, and can take up self-employment and business opportunities here.
If you have an HSMP approval letter, we would need to make an application for you under the transitional arrangements for the HSMP
You can use our free Tier 1 General points-based assessment service to calculate how many points you will score and one of our immigration advisors will be in touch to discuss your scoring for free or contact us to start your application.
